Brief Description

One of the most famous and beautiful attractions of Kefalonia, Melissani is a breathtaking sight as the harmonious coexistence of turquoise crystal waters, the stalactites and the sunbeams that penetrate through the large part of the roof which has collapsed, it just cuts off your breath.
It is a unique geological phenomenon where water penetrates the limestone, erodes and the grooves are created in a strange geological process.
The nostalgic mood that is created to the visitor during the boat tour, supported by descriptions of the boatmen about the myth that wants the nymph Melissani committing suicide in the lake because Pan son of Hermes rejected her love. Archaeological findings from the sanctuary of Pan discovered on the islet located in the lake, are exhibited  in the Archaeological Museum of Argostoli.
